British science fiction and fantasy writing have had their fair share of successful authors. Many have won, or were nominated for several awards, including those initiated by the British Fantasy Society. Going by the growing fan base for authors of the fantasy-horror genre, also called ‘speculative fiction’, science fiction novels, novelettes, short stories and essays are here to stay – ever since Jules Verne and HG Wells, and later Sir Arthur C Clarke and Isaac Asimov, gave this genre a jump-start.
